Our Blancs
Blanc de Hotots are one of the rarest breeds of rabbit. They were first created in 1902 from crosses of Checkered Giants to large white rabbits. The goal was to make a large white rabbit with dark eyes. The original breeder worked hard to keep the eye bands out. During WWII the breed nearly disappeared, but it was saved when breeders in Switzerland started raising them. They liked to eye bands so they bred them back in. The breed first came to the US in 1978 and was accepted by ARBA in 1979. They are a 6 class commercial breed weighing 8-11lbs at Sr weight. They are typically used for show, meat, and fur. They are recognized in 1 variety, called standard (white with the black eye bands).
